The Washington Commanders are running out of options to strengthen their wide receiver room after missing out on Alec Pierce in free agency and drafting a linebacker at No. 7 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft. Now, Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton suggests a trade for New England Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte could be the solution.
Boutte, a key player in the Patriots’ 2025 Super Bowl run, averaged 16.7 yards per catch last season. With New England adding Romeo Doubs and A.J. Brown, Boutte’s role could diminish, making him an attractive target for Washington. The Commanders, currently 14th in the NFC with a 5-12 record, could acquire Boutte for a 2027 fifth-round pick, reuniting him with fellow LSU alum Jayden Daniels.
Boutte’s career has been marked by inconsistency, partly due to a gambling addiction he admitted to during his time at LSU. In 2024, a warrant was issued for his arrest after he allegedly placed nearly 9,000 bets, including six on LSU games he played in. However, all charges were dropped in July 2024, and Boutte has since addressed his struggles in a Players’ Tribune article.
If the Commanders land Boutte, they could avoid using a first-round pick on a wide receiver in the 2027 NFL Draft. Boutte is entering the final year of his rookie contract, making him a cost-effective addition. With their next game against the Philadelphia Eagles on September 13, 2026, Washington needs to act fast to improve their offense.
